The Story of Billy Vanilly

billy vanilly™ opened in 2007 in Topeka and was Kansas’ first cupcake store. Previously known as Daddy Cakes cupcakes, the store changed its name in early 2011. Originally named after the size of their largest cupcake, the store built its reputation on offering made from scratch cupcakes that are baked fresh daily. The name billy vanilly™ comes from one of our most popular cupcakes. White cake, vanilla buttercream with rainbow sprinkles and a cherry.

“We like to give our cupcakes fun names and make up little personalities to go along with them.” says the owner, Allyson Fiander. “The billy vanilly cupcake has been one of the most popular for years. We like to think of him as the all American boy next door. A high school football player who everybody likes!” Our trademark swirl logo is a tribute to the cherry on top of our favorite cupcake – billy vanilly

Allyson Fiander – our Pastry Chef and owner has over 25 years of culinary experience. She studied pastry and bread baking in France and attended San Francisco Baking Institute. She has worked in such highly esteemed kitchens; Stars Restaurant in San Francisco, Club Med in Florida, The American Restaurant in Kansas City and worked as an apprentice patisserie for Boulangerie Bridal in the Colmars, France.

Prior to starting billy vanilly™ she owned Boulangerie Philippe, a French Bakery/Cafe‚ in Prairie Village, Kansas.

She was honored by the Kansas Department of Commerce as the “Woman-owned Retail Business of the Year” for 2010.

Allyson appeared on The Food Network’s series Cupcake Wars episode featuring Sea World. Her assistant was her brother, Phil Burns who owns his own cupcake store Mity Nice Bakery in Eureka, CA.
